Syracuse & Noto - Full Day

From the Magna Greece period to the Late Baroque, an excursion through 2000 years of history.

Difficulty: Easy

Equipment Recommended: Sneakers, Sunscreen

Our Syracuse tour from Catania will give you the opportunity to get to know one of the most fascinating Sicilian archaeological sites. You will know first the Archaeological Park, the most important site in the city. Admire the Roman Amphitheater, the Greek Theater and the famous Ear of Dionysus, a great rich quarry of anecdotes and legends.
But Syracuse offers incredible surprises in the subsurface; since you can see the Catacombs of San Giovanni, a Roman burial site, formerly used by the Greeks as underground aqueduct or as Hypogeum, a tunnel carved into the limestone below ground level. And again: The Temple of Apollo, the oldest Doric temple in Western Europe, the Aretusea Fontana who was the inspiration for John Milton, Alexander Pope and William Wordsworth.
After lunch (included in the excursion) the second part of your trip will be devoted to visiting the beautiful town of Noto. The history center was declared in 2002 by UNESCO World Heritage Site, along with the late Baroque towns of the Val di Noto. The beauty of the aristocratic and ecclesiastical buildings of the 17th century, you can admire along the main streets of the town, Via Vittorio Emanuele and Via Cavour.
