Half Day Tour through the places that made famous the movie picture "The Godfather" by Francis Ford Coppola.
Equipment Recommended: Sneakers, Sunscreen
The legend tells that Francis Ford Coppola did not choose Savoca and Forza d’Agrò first for his masterpiece “The Godfather” but this was a second choice. FFC infact, tried to shoot the scenes in Corleone but when he was asked to pay “pizzo” then he decided to move production to two of the most beautiful hills on the East Coast.
And that was the right choice!
Savoca and Forza d’Agrò are now in our minds, and Savoca in particular is since 2008 entered the Club of the “Most Beautiful Medieval Village in Italy”.
Savoca will be our tour first stop, after we’ve met guide at the meeting point. Just arrived, we will see the very important site, untouched since 1972: Il Bar Vitelli (Trimarchi’s Bulding) where Michael Corleone asked Mr Vitelli the permission to court his daughter Apollonia. Then we will see San Nicolò’s Church where Michael and Apollonia got married. Not included in the movie picture, but a must see location, is the Capuchin’s Convent in which we will see the Crypt containing the mummified bodies of the Savoca’s nobility of the end of 1500, the very old San Calvario’s Church, The Door of The Village and The Old Prison.
From Savoca we will move towards Forza d’Agrò where we will find The Santa Maria SS Annunziata’s Cathedral that compares in the first and in the second chapter of the Colossal. After Forza d’Agrò our guides will drive us to the last location of the tour, The Castle of the Slaves based in Fiumefreddo di Sicilia where Apollonia was murdered.
